Several members of the Eagles Martial Arts Club in Centurion participated this year at the Tshwane Regional Championships.
Five members were presented with awards for their performance. Dylan Jacobs, who started in 2004 and is now graded as a shodan, won the award for the best junior man. Leslie Whyte, who has only been part of the club since 2008 and is currently graded as Nidan, won the award for the best veteran man.
Derick Viviers, who has Autistic Spectrum Disorder, currently holds a purple belt, and was awarded the prize for the best man with a disability. Tiane de Bod, who has only been practicing karate at the Eagles since 2011, was named the best senior girl and her brother, Dihan, the best senior boy. The Tshwane Regional Championships were held to select a team to compete at the Gauteng Championships on 30 November.
Karate Tshwane is the official karate structure recognised by Karate South Africa and Sascoc. It presents these awards at the annual regional championships in recognition of the athletes’ performances. Tshwane ranked first at the previous Gauteng Championship and can be considered the best region in the Gauteng province.
